Les Classes de Français
French 1 & 2 are structured to help students gain the skills of the French language. Students will develop skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking, and cultural awareness. The focus will be on communication. Students are expected to participate actively in class while we explore this useful and beautiful language.
Français 1
French 1 is designed to help students gain the basic skills of the French language. In French 1, students learn to communicate in real-life contexts about topics that are meaningful to them. In order to develop their French speaking skills, students are encouraged to speak French as much as possible. An important component of French is to use French beyond the classroom in order to apply knowledge of the language in the real world. Therefore, students will be encouraged to speak French outside of class as well.
Students are expected to spend 10-15 minutes each day at home finishing class work or studying notes/vocabulary. Daily participation in class will help students learn much faster and better, which means that participation is crucial to the success of each student.
Français 2
French 2 is designed to go more in depth than just the basic skills of the French language. Students have gained the basic communication skills and are now ready to increase their knowledge and capabilities. They begin to show greater level of accuracy when using basic langauge structures and are exposed to more complex features of the French lanuage. They continue to focus on communicating about their immediate world and daily activities. They read material on familiar topcs and write short, directed compositions.
